Independent Port Consultants strengthens expertise with new partners

London 13.06.2022 – Independent Port Consultants (IPC), a group of industry professionals providing advice to the global ports, shipping, maritime cargo, marine, and logistics sectors, has strengthened its expertise with the appointment of three additional partners.

Founded in 2001, IPC is a collective of independent industry experts each with an average of 30 years’ experience in a wide range of senior roles. With skills and experience including forecasting and economics, port development, design and construction, due diligence, operations, HR and training, marketing and communication strategy and more, IPC has spent the last two years broadening its expertise with the addition of new members.

Latest partners to join the team include Guy Martin, a mechanical engineer with 20 years’ experience in the handling of dry bulk products. Guy has led bulk terminal and equipment design and development projects around the world and has extensive management experience at group and project level. Guy explains he joined IPC as “I was impressed by the experience and reputation that the group has within the industry.”

Another new member is Captain Martin Phipps MBE, a Master Mariner with over 50 years’ experience, having worked as a master at sea, as a pilot and then as the Harbour Master at the Port of Southampton, Martin brings port operations, simulation, pilotage, and accident investigation expertise to the group.

The third new member is Rachael White, who has more than 30 years’ experience covering global trade, shipping, ports and cargo logistics. Over the years she has worked with port design, operations and technology specialists, academics, government, NGOs, ocean carriers and other key stakeholders in global maritime logistics, operations and supply chains. Her expertise includes international business relations, industry trends, branding and communication, marketing and events, social media, and media relations. “It’s a pleasure to join a team of experienced and enthusiastic experts offering such a wide array of consulting expertise at a time of huge change in the industry,” said Rachael.

Founding member of IPC Peter Bingham said: “These additions to IPC bring a breadth of experience in global marine operations, bulk cargo handling, market intelligence, marketing and communication strategy and international industry relations that will help ports operate more safely, efficiently and profitably, and enable them to strengthen their planning, profile and stakeholder relationships.”

Members of the IPC team will be moderating sessions at TOC Europe in Rotterdam 14-16 June, the leading global event for port and terminal professionals, technology and service providers, and users. Martin Mannion will lead a session on Port Infrastructure & Interoperability on 14 June. Steve Cameron will moderate four sessions: the opening Keynote address from Port of Rotterdam and AP Moller Maersk on 14 June, and on 15 June two sessions on Developing Markets focused on Brazil and Morocco, plus a spotlight on the EU ‘Fit for 55’ green transition plan for maritime and logistics.
