Ray Fenyoe

Ray is an economist and market researcher with over 30 years’ consultancy experience in the road, rail, intermodal, and maritime transport industries.

Before establishing his own specialist freight transport consultancy in 1991, he forecast UK international trade for the National Ports Council, researched non-bulk shipping markets with Drewry’s, and founded and ran Containerisation International magazine’s consultancy arm.

Ray has developed his extensive expertise working:

• as a strategic business adviser to ports such as Hong Kong, Colombo, JNPT Mumbai, Chennai, Barcelona, Teesport, Dover, London, and Giaio Tauro
• on due diligence studies for financial institutions or operators such as HHLA Hamburg, FSD Vancouver, ICTSI, and Eurotunnel
• as project director or manager in a wide range of TACIS, EIB, and ADB projects, working on studies such as the development of the Russian inland waterway system, and the potential for overland traffic between the Far East and Europe

His assignments typically involved the development of business strategies based on market research results, the development of traffic or sales forecasts and scenarios utilising market research as a significant input to statistical modelling, and the consequent elaboration of financial and economic appraisals. Most such appraisals related to the provision of new port infrastructure. He has worked in the FSU and Eastern Europe as well as in China, India, Sri Lanka, the Middle East, North and Central America, and many western European countries.

His problem-solving approach to all his projects is strongly commercial, with an emphasis on robust and practical market-based analysis, and consultation with stakeholders, leading to imaginative and workable results and recommendations.
