Kevin is a commercially focused, visionary technology leader with extensive technology leadership experience in diverse industries including ports and terminals, manufacturing and supply chain, software development and utilities.
Kevin started out as a Shipping Agent in 1993, before moving into an administrative role with Dundee Port Authority in 1994. Following the acquisition of the port by Forth Ports in 1995, Kevin continued to apply his interest in technology to transform departmental administration, freeing up time to move into operational supervisory role, create and manage a new warehousing and logistics service for a key customer, implement ISO 9001 accreditation and many other business projects that brought him to the attention of other teams in the Forth Ports group.
In 2004, Kevin was seconded to a project team to implement a strategic group Terminal Operating System and became a full-time member of the IT team in 2006. Over the next 11 years, Kevin delivered over 100+ projects across Marine, Operations, Finance and Engineering, covering a broad spectrum of operations, including containers, break bulk, bulk, and ro-ro.
Since leaving Forth Ports in 2017, Kevin has worked with a variety of organisations from startups to global multi-nationals, in industries such as manufacturing, utilities and software development. He has also owned and operated several successful ventures in Property Management, F&B, and Personal Care. He became an independent consultant in 2022.
This diversity of industry experience allows Kevin to bring different perspectives to solving business challenges. His ability to think about situations from a business and technology perspective – blending hard and soft skills to build trusted relationships, solve complex problems, and reimagine processes using contemporary tools – helps bridge the gap between two traditional enemies – the business and the IT team.
Kevin believes that there’s nothing smart about the bad application of technology and that successful business transformation requires a mindset shift. In 2021, Kevin published his Manifesto – Four values and eight principles that underpin successful application of technology in business. Kevin is an advocate of intentional application of technology to business problems – the right technology, at the right time, for the right reasons – and a “people-first” approach that ensures technology serves the user, and not the other way around.
