The Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA) has developed a series of Marine Codes to establish quality infrastructure along the Red Sea in line with national goals and objectives. SRSA has been mandated to regulate the navigational and tourist activities of cruise vessels and yachts in the Kingdom’s Red Sea waters. The Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA) has issued Saudi Arabia’s first-ever regulation for yachts and cruise vessels activities, which outlines necessary requirements and conditions, and oversees the issuance of tourism and leisure licenses and permits. It also ensures environmental protection, sustainability, and adherence to all safety requirements as part of SRSA’s key role in developing a sustainable coastal tourism sector.
IPC supported Buro Happold (lead consultant) in developing a series of planning, design and operational codes for SRSA. The IPC team of Martin Mannion, Steve Cameron and Martin Phipps worked on the Cruise Terminal Planning and Design Code, the Cruise Terminal Operations Code (see https://redsea.gov.sa/en/codes), as well as planning, design and operational codes for Mooring Buoys. The codes describe in depth the requirements for approvals, planning, design, operational management, inspection and maintenance. They embed good practice in terms of sustainable and innovative solutions.
